Thrifting Across the United States

Woohoo! We are going on a road trip! A 32 hour road trip to be exact from Pensacola, FL to San Diego, CA. We are going home for a few weeks and we decided to drive instead of fly for several reasons.
1. I hate flying,
2. My husband and myself are going to be those parents that drag their kids on long tedious road trips, so there is no better time than the present to start the tradition,
3. We wanted to visit family and friends on the way,
4. It is easier to drive with a 3 year old than flying....no one to annoy, but us,
and.....
5. It is the perfect opportunity to thrift and antique across the United States!

So, the reason for our trip is to visit everyone back home and celebrate my husband and son's birthday with those that we love and some that we tolerate. LOL. It's nice when they share the same birthday! I joke with my husband that I gave him the gift that keeps on giving so I am off the hook for future presents. But seriously, I love the fact that they are exactly 25 years and 6 hours to the minute apart. It makes me feel that there is this huge connection between them...silly, I know because they would have a unique connection anyways.

It is going to be interesting cramming all of my treasures that I find along the way into our Jeep Cherokee along with luggage and birthday presents that I am sure everyone will go overboard with. Only 20 more days until we make the trip....I will keep you posted:)

Today's photo shoot....Amazing!!!

Today was the much anticipated photo shoot.  I had three awesome models, including my good friend Anar, putting on my fashion show.  All of the girls had a different body shape, which helped out tremendously because none of the dresses were the same size.  Special thanks to Crystal Belle for providing her home studio for this photo shoot, the photos she took were absolutely amazing.  This felt nothing close to work, all of us had a great time.  Once again, thanks to all of the girls who participated.  Check out my Etsy account to take a look at the new pictures.  www.kricketts17.etsy.com

It is official... I have found my calling!

Amazing things happen sometimes when you aren't even trying.  Ever since we got to Pensacola in May of last year, I have been trying to find any job around the area to make some money.  The problem was, I hadn't been able to find a job in my major (accounting) that would pay enough to offset putting Chase in daycare ( We would actually be losing money).  Funny thing is, after taking Chase to playgroups out here, we would drive around and check out the local thrift shops to see if I saw anything that caught my eye.  Before we knew it, we had been to five or six thrift shops and been out for hours, but both Chase and I were having a blast!  So far,we have been doing this for about 8 months and a thought snuck up on me and surprised me the other day....this is turning out to be a legitimate business!  I am making contacts out here and my name is being passed around in the "thrifting biz", lol!  Next thing on my radar, I have a stock of dresses to put on my Etsy account, and I have been introduced to some amazing girls that were willing to model them for my website...So Excited...Stay Tuned!

So Excited To Get This Blog Started!!!!

I am so excited to get this blog up and running! Today seems like the perfect day to get it rolling since we (my 2 year old son, Chase, and myself) won't be thrifting:( We are all sick...yuck! I am hoping that this blog will be an inspiration to those that have unique taste, want to exhibit a different style, or even earn some extra cash on the side by having an awesome hobby.

First....a little background on me. I am a 29 year old mommy....I just turned 29 and 30 is freaking me out a bit. LOL. I think we all go through it. Anyways, my loving and supportive husband, Ray, is an active duty Marine and we are currently stationed in Pensacola, Florida. We have been here for about 8 months and it is a definite change from San Diego, California where I was born and raised. Not a bad change, just different. I am one of those people that is on the lifetime schooling program...you know....the one that never really graduates and just stays in school forever. Haha...totally joking here. I have my undergrad in accounting and never really loved the subject, so I decided to continue on and get my MBA. That is what I am currently working on. While we were in San Diego, I made extra money by buying and selling used textbooks, but when we moved to Florida it was virtually impossible to do it because there are not as many big schools around here as in San Diego. What's a girl to do?

I don't remember what actually made me want to go to a thrift store to shop. Maybe it was my search  for a vintage train case. Whatever the reason...I am glad that I did it. It is amazing what you can find and the prices are unbelievable! I slowly started with luggage and handbags and now I have incorporated clothing and household goods. My husband jokes that we need a bigger house just to fit all of my finds in before I sell them. LOL. I tell him we just need to clean out the garage.

My partner in crime is no other than my son, Chase. Since he is home with me all day, he goes with me and I do have to say that he is developing an eye for stuff. He was really attached to an old cigar box purse that I just recently sold. He would park his little matchbox cars in it like it was a garage. It would kill Ray to see him tote this thing around, especially when we met Ray on base one night while he was on duty. Here we are around all of these big, bad Marines and here comes my burly son carrying his makeshift garage. I still laugh when I think about it.

So...here goes the tales and adventures of thrifting with my son or as the title states, thrifting with mommy.  Stay tuned for everyday antics in my family's life, running my business, and enjoying a hobby that has become a true passion of mine. I hope that we can inspire and give you a good laugh for the day:) To see what we find, visit www.kricketts17.etsy.com
